Double Shot of Whiskey

Two beds. Two personalities. One comfortable place to land.

There are two of you. Two beds. And, depending on who you're rooming with, probably at least three stories that should never leave the room.

That’s the beauty of our double rooms.

They're for the woman who doesn't necessarily need a room all to herself, but also isn't looking to bunk up with half the retreat. You get a little company without a crowd, your own full-size bed, and somebody to talk to when you crawl into bed and suddenly remember the one thing you forgot to tell her downstairs.

Or don't talk at all.

Seriously. We are grown women. Sometimes the greatest gift another woman can give you is to shut up, roll over, and let you sleep. And sometimes it’s one more story.

We have two double rooms at Outcrop, and somehow they ended up with completely opposite personalities.

Neon Moon is our softer one. She's pretty. She's peaceful. She's the room that makes you want to open the doors, crawl into bed a little earlier than necessary, and watch the moon come up outside.

And then there's Tennessee Whiskey.

She's not soft.

She's warm, a little darker, a little sexier, and we're pretty sure she's been out later than Neon Moon. She's still getting dressed, actually. We're adding photographs, collecting pieces, and figuring out exactly who she wants to be.

One gives you moonlight and morning coffee.

The other feels like she probably has a story from last night.

Pick your poison.

NEON MOON

When the sun goes down, don’t be afraid to step outside.

Neon Moon is one of my favorite rooms at Outcrop.

She’s soft and beautiful, with a quiet kind of femininity to her. She doesn't scream for attention. She’s simply comfortable, peaceful, and waiting for you to slow down long enough to notice her.

But I also don't want you spending your entire retreat inside her.

Because Neon Moon really comes alive after dark.

There’s something about the Brooks & Dunn song that has always painted a picture in my head: nighttime, music, a little loneliness, a little freedom, and that glowing moon hanging over everything while life keeps moving underneath it.

Out here, we don't have much neon.

We have something better.

Neon Moon sits on the main level with two full-size beds, an east-facing window, and two doors that open directly onto the covered patio. When the day is over, open those doors. Step outside. Let your eyes adjust to how dark the country actually gets.

Then look up.

See the stars. Find the moon. Listen to how ridiculously quiet it can be. Walk out a little farther if you want to. Stand there in your pajamas. Take glass of wine, your blanket, or whatever happens to be in your glass.

Don't be afraid of the dark out here. Go experience it.

And if you're lucky enough to catch the moon coming up over the horizon, stay for a while. There is something pretty spectacular about standing under that enormous Colorado sky and realizing how small the rest of the world suddenly feels.

Then, if you're an early riser, Neon Moon has one more surprise for you. That same eastern view brings the morning sun through the trees and slowly fills the room with a completely different kind of light.

Nighttime or sunrise. Patio or bed. Shoes or bare feet.

I don't really care how you do it.

I just hope sometime during your stay, you open those doors, step outside, look up, and let yourself get a little lost underneath our Neon Moon.

TENNESSEE WHISKEY

Sweet. Smooth. Warm. And just enough trouble to keep things interesting.

Tennessee Whiskey is not Neon Moon.

Not even a little bit.

She's the woman with three projects started and another one already forming in her head. Her hair is messy. The windows are down. The music is too loud. She's slouched in the passenger seat with her hand out the window, completely unconcerned about what her hair is going to look like when she gets there.

She's ready for whatever happens next.

There's a reason we named this room Tennessee Whiskey. The song gives us smooth whiskey, sweet strawberry wine and the warmth of brandy, and I love all of that.

But our Tennessee Whiskey has a little spice in her, too.

She'll take the spontaneous road trip. Order dessert. Love somebody deeply enough to risk getting her heart broken. And if the night is going particularly well, she's probably the one you're keeping an eye on because dancing on the table has apparently become a reasonable option.

She's lived a little.

And this room is going to look like it.

Right now, Tennessee Whiskey is still unfinished, and strangely, that feels perfect for her. There are photographs still to hang, pieces we haven't found yet, blank spaces waiting for stories, and ideas I'm not quite ready to commit to.

She's restless.

You can almost picture her sitting in the corner looking around the room thinking, Okay...what's next?

And eventually, after the music stops and the night finally catches up with her, she'll jump into one of those beds with everything she did and probably a few things she shouldn't have done, still running through her head.

Tomorrow we'll finish the project.

Tomorrow we'll fix the hair.

Tomorrow we'll behave.

Tonight, we're Tennessee Whiskey.
